Partridge in a Pear Tree

It's more like a partridge on a pine tree decorated with pears.

Happy Boxing Day!

A Tough Crowd

Sally was gifted with a lovely voice, but often felt unappreciated at concerts.

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "voices."

Playtime

When the stars are feeling rambunctious, the moon lets them down to Earth for playtime.

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "rambunctious."

Donna's Wish

“...but I am a magic fish,” said Frieda. “If you spare my life, I will grant you one wish.”

Donna was very suspicious, as Frieda looked quite similar to a regular fish. She thought about it for a while, then finally replied, “Okay. My wish is to eat a fish.”

This is for Illustration Friday’s theme of “similar.”

A Clever Disguise

Toby survived yet another Thanksgiving, thanks to his trusty glasses.

A Difference of Opinion

Penny disagrees.

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "opinion."

Don't Worry

Sometime spiders pretend to be your friend. They are not to be trusted (if you are a fly.)

Illustration Friday's theme this week is pretend.

Olaf's Rude Awakening

As Olaf will soon find out, it wasn't wise to nap on the thinnest branch.

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "wise." I keep almost drawing an owl, but then I'm reminded of my mom's superstition (she says they're omens of misfortune.) I couldn't resist with this week's theme though.

Sir Edwin's Encounter

Instead of the fight Sir Edwin expected, he just got a vacant stare.

Illustration Friday's theme this week is "vacant."

Happy Halloween!

The Treehouse

It only needs a repair every now and then.

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "repair."

The Boogies

Don't stay out too late...

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "late." I also felt a little influenced by Halloween, even though it's early for it.

Hibernation

Every once in a while, Grizzly dreams up a snow cloud.

A Sugary Dream

Yum.

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "sugary." (In case there's any confusion, it's a giant sugar cube, not a salt lick!)

Migration Season

Daisy packed much lighter than last year.

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "packed." I promise I won't draw another bird next week.

Wire Clique

Pierre can't figure out why he's not allowed in their clique.

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "clique." I got a late start on this today, so I didn't get around to coloring it all.

Whale Island

Sophia's favorite island only surfaces at dusk.

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "island." I wanted to challenge myself to a different style this week, so I tried a coloring technique that's new for me. It was fun to try something different!

Clutter Collection

It's not clutter. He needs this stuff.

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "clutter."

No Fishing

As much as Snowflake wants to catch him, her impulses are restrained by the memory of what happened last time...

(Goldie, on the other hand, doesn't remember anything.)

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "memories."

Time to Eat

Rocky travels only between his bed and his kitchen each day. Not too surprising, as stone turtles are notorious for being creatures of routine.

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "routine."

Friday, August 15, 2008

Polo's Friend

Even when she feels detached, Pip's there to keep her company.

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "detach."

Friday, August 8, 2008

Otto's Boat

Rather than conquer his fear of swimming, Otto opted to take up sailing.

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "sail." I don't know the first thing about sailboats, so don't look too closely at the mechanics of Otto's boat!

Poof!

Chickens can fly if they poof up their feathers just right.

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "poof!"

Canned Carrots Anyone?

They probably don't taste very good anyway.

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "canned."

Greener Pastures

These mountain goats have learned to grow their own food. But, when they don't get enough to eat, they have to rely on extra scraps in the wind.

This is based on a similar concept from an earlier post, and is also a take on Illustration Friday's theme of "enough."

Bamboo Birds

Their legs may seem spindly, but don't worry about them. They're stronger than they look.

I wanted to try a slightly different style this week, so I went for a more painterly effect. I may have gone a bit overboard with the drips and splatters, but that's okay. It was fun.

A Sour Treat

We have a lemon tree in our backyard. Every once in a while, a squirrel will snack on an entire lemon rind but leave the fleshy part behind. I guess it's just too sour.

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "sour."

Fierce

Just wait until he grows up...

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "fierce."

The Peanut Curmudgeon

"No, you may NOT have a peanut."

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "hoard."

"Leaf Me Alone!"

The birds politely listen to his jokes every day, even though his punchline never changes...

This is for Illustration Friday's theme of "punchline."

The Songbird's Muse

This week's drawing is inspired by a recent Threadless competition theme. The challenge is to design a t-shirt inspired by the true meaning of Lollapalooza, which apparently is "remarkable or wonderful person or thing." Even though it's not technically in the theme, I also wanted to include a musical element to tie in with the concert aspect of Lollapalooza.

The idea is hopefully conveyed well enough with the title. It's in black and white for now cause I didn't get around to adding color, but I probably will eventually.

A Baby for Sara

Sara had diligently delivered babies for years until one of her own arrived.  It was quite a confusing moment for her.

This is my take on this week's Illustration Friday theme of "baby."

Diamond's Worries

Diamond is a timid mouse who's constant worries overwhelm her.  She should really learn to chill out every once in a while.

This drawing is my interpretation of Illustration Friday's most recent theme of "worry."  It's the first time I've used an Illustration Friday topic for my drawing, but I'm sure it won't be the last...

The Wandering Isle of Topo

This is Topo the giant sea turtle.  I want to eventually add some plants and wildlife for scale, but here it is so far.

Kitsune

This week, I stumbled upon folklore about Kitsune, a spirit fox who grows a new tail every thousand years.

I've been wanting to experiment with different styles of art, so I attempted to make this look folklore-ish, whatever that means.

Lunchtime

I know I'm a little late, but I wanted to do something to celebrate this year's Earth Day.

This bison/yak/whatever is doing his part to consume fewer resources.  You have to give him credit for at least trying.

Best Friends

So... this is the first week that I didn't find time to draw something new. Instead, here's something I drew shortly before I started my blog. It was inspired by the then-current theme of "Best Friends" on Threadless.

I figure every kid wanted their own dragon at some point. At least in the Harry Potter generation anyway.

Last Night

A few months ago I submitted my first Threadless design.  I've been wanting to make another one recently, so this week I decided to work on a blog entry/t-shirt design in tandem.

These sheep are inspired by Threadless' most recent theme of "Last Night."  I might clean them up a bit before I submit it, but here they are as of today.
